\nIndications:  Keratolytic\n(removes superficial cells of the skin) for removal of verrucae (common and\nplantar warts).

\nACTIVE Ingredient: \nSalicylic Acid 16.7% USP.

\nDESCRIPTION:  Gordofilm  has been specially\nformulated for the topical management and removal of common and plantar warts. \nThe common wart, known as verruca, is easily recognized by the rough\ncauliflower-like appearance of the surface.  Gordofilm is known as a\nkeratolytic agent, in that it breaks down or dissolves the rough or horny layer\nof the epidermal tissues known as keratin.  The Salicylic Acid (16.7% USP)\nin Gordofilm exerts a marked keratolytic action which makes it a beneficial\nagent in the local treatment of warts.  The Flexible Collodion in the\nformula is used as a protective or sealant, and as an antiseptic which coats the\naffected area.

\nCONTRAINDICATIONS/WARNINGS:  \nFor external use only.  Do not use on moles, birthmarks, warts with\nhair growing from them, genital warts, warts on the face or mucous membranes. \nDo not use on irritated, infected reddened skin or if you are a diabetic or have\npoor blood circulation.  If discomfort persists see your physician or\npodiatrist.  Highly flammable.  Keep away from fire or flame. \nKeep bottle tightly capped.  Store at room temperature.  Keep away\nfrom heat.  Keep out of the reach of children.  If product gets\ninto eyes, flush with water for 15 minutes.  Avoid inhaling vapors.

\nDIRECTIONS:  Wash\naffected area.  Dry area thoroughly.  Apply one drop at a time to\nsufficiently cover each wart.  Let dry.  Then repeat above steps 1-2\ntimes daily as needed for up to 12 weeks.

\nPeripheral Neuropathy\nExplained

What It Is:

Peripheral\nneuropathy (PN), an affliction suffered by millions, is a disorder of the\nperipheral nervous system resulting from damage to the nerves' protective\ncoating or from damage to the nerves themselves.

The peripheral\nnervous system is made up of nerve fibers bundled together in nerve trunks. \nThey run from the brain and spinal cord (which make up the central nervous\nsystem) to other parts of the body.  The fibers are shielded by a coating\nor membrane called the myelin sheath.  Like wires protected by insulation,\nthe coated fibers carry "electrical" impulses from receptors located in internal\norgans, muscles and skin back to our brain through our spinal cord.  When\nan injury to the peripheral nerves or their protective coating occurs which\ninterferes with the transmission of impulses from these receptors, one of two\nthings (or sometimes both) occurs depending on the receptors and nerve fibers\ninvolved.  Either the brain acknowledges and registers the abnormal\ntransmission as pain or some other unpleasant sensation, or it prompts a\nresponse back to the muscle or organ from which the original impulse emanated. \nIn the latter case, the response may result in decreased muscle movement or\nchanges in organ functioning.

Sensory PN - the\ntype experienced by most people - seems to occur initially at the extremities of\nthe longest nerves furthest from the spinal cord and brain.  Consequently\nthe feet, being at the end of the line, are usually the first to be hit with\npain and numbness.  Frequently the hands are next.  Over time the\naffliction can spread to ankles, legs and arms if the underlying cause is not\naddressed.

\nCauses:

Speaking about causes, there are said to\nbe more than 100 different ones.  Diabetes is considered the most\ncommon, at least in developed countries.  It is variously estimated that 30\nto 65% of people with diabetes an PN to some degree or other.

Various toxins and metallic poisons (such\nas arsenic, lead and mercury), certain chemicals (especially solvents and some\ninsecticides), excessive alcohol intake, vitamin deficiencies (particularly B12)\nor vitamin excesses (B6), other nutritional imbalances, and a number of drugs\ncan all cause peripheral neuropathy.  It can also result from kidney\nfailure, liver disease, rheumatoid arthritis, abnormal blood proteins, cancer\n(and even cancer chemotherapy), leukemia and shingles.

Certain repetitive activities such as\ntyping can also be the cause of some neuropathies.  Carpal tunnel syndrome\nis one example.  This is a so-called entrapment neuropathy - a condition\nresulting from a nerve lesion at a point where the nerve is confined to a narrow\npassageway.

A tendency toward PN can also be inherited. \nA family history of the disorder increases the likelihood.

\nTests:

If a physician suspects neuropathy,\nthorough evaluation and testing may five clues to the probable cause and may\nsuggest a course of treatment.  For example, it\nis important to know whether the injury is to the nerve fibers themselves or to\nthe myelin sheath covering them.  Also, the severity of the injury can be\nestablished through tests.

A search for reversible causes is always\nimportant.  For instance, it might be determined that a certain toxin in\nthe blood, or a deficiency of vitamin B12, is the culprit.

Even when the cause of the primary\nneuropathy has been established, medical practitioners will sometimes wish to\ndetermine whether another disorder may be involved an co-exist with the primary\nneuropathy.  This is particularly true where there is a frequent\nrelationship between the two.
